Black Friday series
Black Friday offer on WhatsApp: how to write a clear one
Key takeaways
- A clear offer = product + total price + audience + real validity + delivery and exchange conditions, with no hidden exception.
- Under the Brazilian Consumer Protection Code (CDC, art. 30), any sufficiently precise offer binds the supplier; what the salesperson writes on WhatsApp counts as a contract.
- According to Reclame Aqui (2025), 10.7% of Black Friday complaints were for misleading advertising; most come from an omitted condition, not a deliberate lie.
- An offer message should ask the customer for a single action; three competing requests reduce replies.
- If more than 20% of conversations ask something that should already be in the offer, the problem is the offer, not the sales chat.
What does a Black Friday offer need to be clear?
It needs five elements, in the order the customer decides: what it is, how much it costs, who it is for, until when it is valid and what happens afterward.
| Element | What to write | Common mistake |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Product or service, what is included and what is not | "Complete kit" without listing the items |
| How much it costs | Total price, installments, shipping or travel fee | Price without shipping; "from" without the full value |
| Who it is for | Size, model, profile, prerequisite, service area | Selling to someone who cannot use it and generating a return |
| Until when | Real date and time or real quantity in inventory | "Today only" repeated for three days |
| After payment | Delivery time or scheduling, exchanges, warranty, 7-day right of withdrawal | Delivery time discovered after payment |
Decree 7.962/2013 (Brazil's e-commerce decree) requires clear information about the product, total price, charges, delivery time and conditions. Selling on WhatsApp is e-commerce; the rule applies to the message, not just the website.
How to write the offer message for WhatsApp?
Write a short version, up to 6 lines, that fits on a phone screen without scrolling, and a full version on the page or in the catalog. The short one carries the five elements; the full one carries the details. An adaptable, hypothetical template:
Notice what the message does:
- A real reference price. "From R$ 189" can only be used if R$ 189 was the lowest price charged in the last 60 days, as recommended by Procon-SP, the São Paulo consumer protection agency (2025). The minimum price math is in discounting without destroying your margin.
- Total price. Shipping and installments appear before the decision, not after.
- Double and truthful validity. A date with a time and a real quantity, both checked against the day's inventory.
- Delivery time counted from payment. "7 business days after payment" avoids the late-delivery complaint when the customer pays three days later.
- A single action. "Want me to send the link?" is yes or no. "Check the catalog, tell me your size and confirm your address" is three requests and stalls the conversation.
Decision rule: if the offer has more than one condition that changes the price (size, color, region), do not try to fit everything into the short message; ask about the condition first and send the right price afterward. A wrong price in the first message becomes an offer you are obligated to honor.
How to make sure the ad, the sales chat and the checkout say the same thing?
With a single base text, written before the campaign, from which the ad, the quick reply and the page are derived. Differences between channels generate complaints for unfulfilled offers, which made up 7.26% of Procon-SP complaints (2025).
- Write the base text with the five elements and the validity date.
- Generate the ad version (shorter), the sales chat quick reply (the message above) and the full page from it.
- Register the quick reply in the CRM so every agent sends the same text. A CRM with quick replies and per-lead history, such as RASTRO, later shows which offer each customer received, which settles the "they promised me another price" dispute.
- When a condition changes (inventory ran out, delivery time went up), change the base text and the three derived versions at the same time. An ad running with an outdated offer is misleading advertising by omission (CDC, art. 37).
How to create urgency without fake scarcity?
With a real date, a real quantity and a real benefit that ends. Invented urgency erodes trust and, if the customer finds out, it is misleading advertising.
| Allowed | Not allowed |
|---|---|
| "Valid until Nov 27 at 11:59 pm" (and the offer really ends) | A countdown that restarts on every visit |
| "We have 80 units" (the day's sellable balance) | "Last units" with full inventory |
| "After Black Friday it goes back to R$ 189" (and it does) | "This price will never come back" with no basis |
| "Flat shipping only on orders paid by Sunday" | Promising a free gift that is not in inventory |
Decision rule: if you cannot show the customer, with verifiable data, why the urgency exists, remove the urgency from the message. An offer without urgency still sells; an offer with fake urgency sells once.
Hypothetical example: the cost of a badly written offer
Hypothetical example: a store receives 500 conversations during Black Week.
- Offer without delivery time in the message: 30% of conversations (150) ask "will it arrive before Christmas?". Each question costs 2 minutes of agent time to answer → 300 minutes, or 5 hours, of work the message would have avoided.
- Shipping discovered at checkout: of the 120 customers who ask for the link, 20% (24) give up when they see the R$ 25 shipping that was not in the offer. At an average order value of R$ 149, that is R$ 3,576 the store failed to collect from people who had already decided to buy.
- Corrected offer: with delivery time and shipping in the message, suppose questions drop to 10% (50 conversations, 100 minutes) and drop-off at the link to 8% (10 customers). The store recovers 14 sales (R$ 2,086) and 3.3 hours of sales chat time without spending more on ads.
Repeated questions and drop-off after the link are symptoms of an incomplete offer, not of difficult customers. The link stage is covered in from link sent to payment confirmed.
Which common mistakes make the offer confusing?
The four most common mistakes:
- The offer in five messages. Photo, then price, then "and there's shipping", then "oh, only until Friday". The customer loses the thread and the effort to buy grows. One message with the five elements solves it.
- A condition revealed only after payment. "Delivery only within the capital" discovered after the Pix transfer is grounds for cancellation and a misleading advertising complaint.
- A price different from the ad. The ad says R$ 149 and the salesperson sends R$ 159 "because the batch ran out". Under art. 35 of the CDC, the customer can demand that the advertised offer be honored.
- Sending the offer to people who did not ask for it. The WhatsApp Business policy (Meta) requires opt-in for proactive messages. Build the interest list before sending anything out.
What to measure to know whether the offer is clear?
Measure repeated questions, proposals sent versus payments and drop-off after the link. These three numbers show whether the offer is being understood.
| Metric | Formula | Good | Bad |
|---|---|---|---|
| Repeated question rate | conversations asking something already written in the offer ÷ total conversations | below 10% | above 20% (rewrite the offer) |
| Proposal → payment conversion | confirmed payments ÷ proposals sent | equal to or above the store's history | drop of more than 30% vs. history |
| Drop-off after the link | links sent with no payment in 24 h ÷ links sent | below 40% | above 60% (hidden condition or price outside expectations) |
| Cancellation due to conditions | orders canceled over delivery time, shipping or exchanges ÷ paid orders | close to zero | any rising value |
To measure this, every conversation needs a recorded stage in the funnel (proposal sent, payment pending, paid); without stages, you are only counting messages. See how to size your sales chat team.

Can a short message leave out the conditions?
No. Summarize in the short message and give easy access to the details on the page or in the catalog. Total price, validity, delivery time and any restriction that changes the purchase decision need to be in the message itself; omitting an essential condition is misleading advertising by omission under art. 37 of the CDC.
Can I say "today only" and repeat the offer tomorrow?
No, if tomorrow's offer is the same one. "Today only" is information about validity; repeating the offer the next day makes that information false. If you want to extend, communicate the extension as news ("we've extended until Sunday"), and do it at most once.
Do I have to accept returns on WhatsApp purchases?
Yes. Art. 49 of the CDC guarantees a 7-day right of withdrawal on purchases made outside the physical store, which includes WhatsApp, with a full refund of the amounts paid. That applies on Black Friday as on any other day, regardless of the discount.
How many offers should I run at the same time?
Few, preferably 3 to 5 products. Each offer requires a base text, a quick reply, a creative and inventory control; more offers than the team can keep updated leads to ads with expired conditions. The planning is in a 30-day plan to sell on WhatsApp.
